The Video Lab
The Video Lab contains 11 iMac stations housing programs such as FCPX, Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Apple Motion, iShowU, Illustrator, Audacity and Photoshop. The Video Lab is connected through fiberwire to an Xsan Server that stores projects. This eliminates the need to purchase external hard drives when working with video/audio software.
The Video Lab is staffed by Multimedia Consultants, who work for Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship (located on the third floor of the library). The Multimedia Consultants are proficient with iMac software and proctor the lab to assist with questions from students, faculty, and staff. Their hours are posted on the video lab door.
Video Lab Hours
The Video Lab hours are the same as the library hours. No reservation is needed to work in the video lab. The video lab is for students, faculty, and staff who are producing multi-media assignments or projects (video/audio). If the lab is busy and you are not working on a multi-media project, you will be asked to give up your seat.
Video Lab Policies
- DO NOT disconnect any cabling from the computers or underneath the computer station. The computers are connected through fiber wire (which is extremely fragile) to the Xsan server (large external hard drive). Tampering with these cables can result in loss of video lab privileges.
- Save everything to Oscar (our pet name for the Xsan server) located on the computers desktop or to an external hard drive. Projects not saved to Oscar or an external hard drive run the risk of being lost when computers are updated and profiles wiped clean.
- To request Oscar space, please contact dps@bucknell.edu.
- Use headphones while editing or listening to music. Headphones and splitters are available at the equipment desk.
- If you are working in a group, please work quietly.
- Computers are on a first come, first served basis. If you leave your computer for longer than half an hour and there are people waiting to use the station, your work will be saved and you will be logged out. Notify a Multimedia Consultant if you are exporting a large file and need to leave the video lab.
