As we explained in a recent Message Center posting, starting with Summer 2015, we will have two Moodle servers. Our Moodle Production Server – http://moodle.bucknell.edu – will host the following course categories:
- Community Sites (Departments, Organizations, etc.)
- Entering Students (Academic Responsibility Orientation, First-Year Reading, etc.)
- Academic Resources (Advisor and Major courses)
- Summer 2015 and Fall 2015 Courses (and subsequent semesters after that)
The second server will be our Moodle Archive Server – http://moodle-archive1.bucknell.edu. It will host all the previous academic courses currently on our Moodle server – in other words, all courses from Fall 2010 through Spring 2015.
Our plan is to retain eight years worth of Moodle courses on the two servers – the four most recent years on the Production Server, and the four years before that on the Archive Server. (Community sites will remain on the Production Server.) Faculty members and students will have access to both servers, and faculty members can move content from the Archive Server to the Production Server using the “Backup and Restore Process.” (Instructions on how to use that process will be posted here soon.)
The purpose of this change is to reduce the number of courses on the main Moodle server (currently at 16,168) and to reduce the size of the database in order to improve performance. An additional goal is to reduce the clutter of the Current Course List display, so that you can find your active courses more easily.
Please contact itec@bucknell.edu if you have any questions about this change.
