Summary
Through the programs and services they provide, the staff who comprise Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship (DP&S) partner with faculty and students to effectively integrate technology in order to enhance teaching, learning and research. As the head of Library & Information Technology’s cross-functional digital scholarship initiative, the Assistant Director of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship oversees programmatic offerings, infrastructure for support of ongoing digital scholarship projects, fiscal and strategic planning and reporting, and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Working closely with the Director of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship and other members of the DP&S team, the Assistant Director should expect to be engaged in and also to lead large campus-wide projects and internal DP&S projects, and to consult with individual faculty. The Assistant Director is comfortable working in a dynamic, rapidly-changing environment and values an interactive and engaging team-based approach.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, direction, planning, and oversight for Library & Information Technology’s cross-functional digital scholarship initiative
- Work with stakeholders to develop overall goals for the program
- Manage administrative functions, such as: fiscal planning, project management, internal and external communication
- Ensure appropriate on-going evaluation and assessment of our digital scholarship program
- Engage the university community, both one on one and in more formal presentation formats, about trends and best practices in digital scholarship and pedagogy
- Collaborate with Library & Information Technology staff on building community and promoting digital scholarship (methods and tools) across the University and to establish the Library as a central site of scholarly inquiry
- Establish transparent and sustainable practices in support of digital scholarship
- Create a robust and sustainable framework for digital scholarship that supports the entire lifecycle of digital research projects
- Manage the Digital Scholarship Center
- Oversee dynamic programming that encourages innovation and meets the needs of the campus community
- Maintain a working and usable space for project work and collaboration
- Identify and run pilot programs for new and emerging technologies
- In collaboration with the Director of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship, directly supervise three members of DP&S and manage other digital scholarship initiative team members, as needed
- Assist the Director and other members of L&IT leadership with the development of strategic departmental initiatives and plans
- In support of student learning and faculty scholarship, collaborates with faculty to explore technologies that may represent new opportunities for learning and growth at Bucknell
- Assure that technology tools and solutions designed to support faculty research are reliable, well-maintained, and effectively supported
- When necessary, serve as a lead point of contact for the Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship group
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Actively identify possible points for integration and closer interaction with other areas of Library & IT
- Work with other DP&S staff and librarians to support instructional and informational programs and activities
- Collaborate with faculty across campus on course design related to digital scholarship methods and tools and facilitate workshops in those courses, as needed
- Participates, as needed, in teaching DP&S-sponsored faculty events and programs such as workshops, lectures, demonstrations, and targeted learning communities
- Participate in and contribute to the development of marketing and outreach services within the library
- Contribute to the library’s assessment program to improve services and user engagement
- Actively participate in the digital scholarship & pedagogy/academic technology/library profession at both the national and regional levels
- Determine what digital scholarship practices/tools at other institutions are worth examining and potentially implementing at Bucknell
- Share information about L&IT’s achievements and challenges as related to the role of Director of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship
Tertiary Responsibilities:
- Serve on appropriate campus committees as a representative of Digital Pedagogy & Scholarship and/or Library & IT
- Attend academic department lectures, colloquiums, etc.
