Course Title: FREN103: French Film Critique/Building Proficiency in French
Faculty: Renée Gosson (French and Francophone Studies)
Fall 2016
DP&S Liaison: Brianna Derr
Project Site
Through a series of carefully scaffolded assignments, students in Professor Renée Gosson’s French 103 course produced 3-4 minute French film critiques. Students analyzed several French films, drafted treatments, studied the technical analysis of the films, logged and captured clips using iShowU, recorded in front of a green screen, and pieced together their critiques using Final Cut Pro X.
The goal of the assignment was to critically analyze the linguistic and cultural performance of the language by recording and peer reviewing the co-hosted teams’ film critiques. Students’ media literacy skills were sharpened through technical analysis of the films, and software taught during the semester enhanced their digital storytelling skills.
