Digital audio can be used in a variety of projects like voice overs for video, podcasts, foreign language skills practice, or telling a digital story. There are many options for capturing good audio.
Here are a few options:
The audio recording booth located in the Bertrand Library’s Tech Courtyard. The audio recording booth provides a quiet environment that will enable the production of very clean sound. The booth contains a Shure digital USB microphone that is connected to a Macintosh computer. Users can choose between using Audacity or GarageBand that are installed on the computer or use a cloud-based software like Soundcloud to record audio. The key for the booth is available for checkout from the Equipment Desk in the library. Training can be scheduled by writing to itec@bucknell.edu.
Using a personal computer. When recording sound using a microphone and your computer be sure to avoid areas that have a lot of ambient sounds like air handlers, this type of noise is easily picked up by microphones. Most personal computers have built in audio recording software. Other options are Audacity, a free download shareware and Soundcloud is a cloud based application. Check out a USB microphone from the equipment desk and plug it in to your computer and you are ready to record.
Use your smartphone to record audio. Voice overs can easily be recorded using your smartphone and an app, email the recoding to yourself and add the file to your digital media project.
