One of the many advantages of the i>clicker software is that you don’t need to prepare questions within the software itself. You can have the question prompt (with the answer choices) as part of your PowerPoint presentation, and you can click on the A-E button on the i>clicker question bar to launch the (multiple choice) question (in this example) during your session. The i>clicker software will save a screen shot of your PowerPoint slide, along with the student responses.
After you reveal the Results Chart (indicating how many students chose each answer) by clicking on the button on the small iclicker toolbar, you can indicate which answer choice was correct by clicking on the Correct Answer button among the buttons in the bottom-left corner of that Results Chart window:
If you don’t have the chance to indicate the correct answer during the class session, you can use igrader later on to re-visit the session and select the correct answer for each clicker question that you asked. You would need to do this, of course, only if you are giving students points for answering questions correctly.
To revisit a clicker session and indicate the correct answer to your questions:
- Go to your private folder on Netspace (where you downloaded the iclicker software) and double-click on the "igrader" program to launch that software.
- You will see a list of the course(s) you have set up in iclicker. Click on the course in question, and click on the Choose button.
- igrader will load the session data. You should have a series of columns with the date of the session in the title row. Click once on the column for the date you want to modify. Once the column is highlighted (in blue), click a second time on that same column to bring up the Session Summary window:
- The Session Summary window will display information about the first question you asked. There will be a small version of the screenshot that iclicker took when you launched the question. To see a larger version (so that you can remind yourself of the question and the answer choices), you can click on the View Screenshot button on the right side of the screen:
- Once you’ve reminded yourself of the answer choices (and the correct choice), you can click on the red X in the top-right corner of the screenshot window to close out that window, then click in the box next to the letter choice to select the correct answer:
- If you asked several questions during the session for which you also need to set the correct answer, click on the arrow just below the table with the student response data to move to the next question:
- Repeat steps 4 through 6 above to indicate the correct answer for each question that you asked during the session. When you are done indicating the correct answer for each question, click on the button at the bottom of the screen to finalize the changes and have igrader calculate the student grades for that session. You can then view reports about student performance on clicker questions by clicking on the icon among the group of icons just above the list of student names.
